Karen Alphonse is a Senior Consultant at Sterling Martin Associates in the firm's Washington, DC office. During her 10 year career in executive search, Ms. Alphonse has held senior-level positions with Isaacson, Miller, a Boston-based retained search firm, as well as boutique search firms, such as ExecSearches.com, a Fort Lauderdale internet recruitment organization. She has successfully worked on a range of senior-level search assignments for major nonprofit clients across the United States. These searches have encompassed a broad range of functional and subject areas.

Ms. Alphonse has worked with education, health, faith-based, social outreach and advocacy organizations to locate exceptional leaders to serve as Executive Directors, Chief Operating Officers, Chief Development Officers, and other senior management roles. She has also worked as a board member, volunteer and advisor with a number of faith-based and mission driven organizations. This participation has given her a unique perspective as to the recurring challenges which face many younger non-profits.

Prior to executive search, Ms. Alphonse worked in the legal sector, as a litigation attorney for 12 years. She worked with Baker & McKenzie's New York office and later founded a community-based law practice in Hartford, CT. She holds an AB from Harvard University and a JD from Columbia University School of Law and currently resides in Washington, DC.
