AESP Hires Jennifer Szaro as New President & CEO

Washington, DC (March 2, 2020) – The Association of Energy Services Professionals partnered with Sterling Martin Associates to help fill the position for their new President & CEO. After an extensive national search, Jennifer Szaro was chosen for the leadership role.

Szaro’s professional experience includes 22 years in the energy industry. She joins AESP after serving as Vice President, Research for the Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA) since 2015.

Before joining SEPA, Szaro spent nearly nine years as Manager of Renewables for the Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC). While in that role, she managed renewable energy programs, corporate sustainability, and electric vehicle infrastructure.

Szaro completed her Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science with a minor in Chemistry at Florida International University and began her energy-career as an AmeriCorps volunteer. For AmeriCorps, she worked in a U.S. Army Corps of Engineer’s chemistry lab as an environmental specialist to understand the impact of energy use on ecological systems. When her AmeriCorps position ended, she became an Environmental Specialist for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, continuing her work for one year before she was recruited to the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC), a state research institute, as a Senior Energy Analyst conducting photovoltaics and energy storage research, cycle cost and performance analysis, and exploring how to move products in development to market. She remained with FSEC for nine years and remains affiliated with FSEC as a Board member today.

While at FSEC, she completed her MBA at the University of Central Florida, with a focus on nonprofit management.

Szaro is a LEED accredited professional. Her areas of expertise include photovoltaics, utility strategy development, grid modernization planning, renewable energy project management, energy market analysis, corporate sustainability planning, electric vehicle infrastructure development, biomass energy conversion, smart grid implementation, and LEED design.
