The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) has announced the selection of Kevin B. Marvel, PhD, as its next Executive Director. He will assume the role effective March 16, 2026, succeeding Marty Saggese, who has served as Executive Director since 2002.
Marvel brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in the scientific society sector, including 19 years as Chief Executive Officer of the American Astronomical Society (AAS). During his tenure, he strengthened AAS’s advocacy and public policy efforts, expanded programs to support scientists at all career stages, and enhanced member engagement across the astronomical sciences.
Marvel brings his extensive leadership experience and commitment to scientific advancement to SfN, as well as dedication to advancing neuroscience and supporting the society’s global community of researchers.
At SfN, Marvel will lead an organization of nearly 30,000 members in more than 95 countries, overseeing scientific programs, publications, advocacy, and global initiatives that support the neuroscience community and public understanding of brain research. In this role, he will build on SfN’s strong foundation of supporting scientific excellence and championing advocacy for research.
