The American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists Names New Executive Director: Adriane K. Griffen

Washington D.C. (January 26, 2022) – The American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (The Academy) recently named Adriane K. Griffen, DrPH, MPH, MSCHES their new Executive Director. Griffen’s professional experience includes more than 20 years within the association sector and was recently credentialed as a Certified Nonprofit Executive Director (CNED).

Griffen has spent her life working to stand up for people who might have a voice in their health and wellbeing. She brings a demonstrated passion for those with disabilities, as well as diversity and inclusion. In 2017, Griffen convened a team to approach the American Medical Association’s medical education group to introduce a resolution on the inclusion of various disabilities into medical education curricula. The resolution was passed by the group and is now on the radar of medical schools and allied health providers nationwide.

Griffen joins The Academy from the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) where she served in a dual capacity over the past 10 years. At AUCD, Griffen served as both the Senior Director of Public Health and Leadership, as well as the Director of the National Center on Disability in Public Health. The Center is housed at the AUCD and was established initially by Griffen. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from The George Washington University.
