Washington, D.C. (December 12, 2022) – The American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) recently appointed Thomas “Tom” Joseph as their incoming Executive Director.
Joseph has over 30 years of experience, primarily within the professional health-care and medical association and nonprofit sector. He joins AALAS from his most recent role serving as the Chief Development and Operations Officer for the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), a 501(c)(3) organization. During his time with ASGE, Joseph has developed programs and initiatives designed to increase members’, donors’, and the public’s awareness of the importance of the organization, its value, and purpose as well as creating an environment of trust that builds lasting relationships, internally and externally.
Joseph earned a Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation in 1996 from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) as well as a Master’s degree in Public Service Management (MPS) with an emphasis in Association Management from DePaul University in 1994.

AALAS established its mission in 1946 when five Chicago-area veterinarians began meeting to discuss issues related to the care of laboratory animals. The association was founded in 1950, and by 1998, AALAS had 48 branches, 19 affiliate organizations, and nearly 9,000 members.
