National Search Leads APhA to Hire Scott Knoer, MS, PharmD, FASHP as CEO

Washington, DC (February 4, 2020) – A successful national search on behalf of the American Pharmacists Association as culminated with the hire of Scott Knoer, MS, PharmD, FASHP as the association’s new CEO. Sterling Martin Associates led the search to fill this position.

Dr. Knoer’s professional experience includes over twenty years in the pharmacy sector and as a senior executive in a world leading healthcare organization.

Most recently, Dr. Knoer served as the Chief Pharmacy Officer for the Cleveland Clinic. In this role, Dr. Knoer was responsible for leading the Clinic’s pharmacy enterprise, which consists of hospitals, clinics, and cancer centers in the greater Cleveland area as well as hospitals and clinics around the United States and internationally, including Abu Dhabi and London.

He received his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and completed a combined PGY1 / PGY2 Health-System Administrative Residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center while also pursuing his Master of Science in Hospital Pharmacy. After he received his Master’s degree, Dr. Knoer was hired to work as the Pharmacy Operations Manager at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.

In 2001, Dr. Knoer was recruited to the University of Minnesota Medical Center to serve as the Assistant Director of Pharmacy Operations. During his ten-year tenure, Dr. Knoer was promoted two times, ultimately becoming the Director of Pharmacy for three campuses. In 2011, Dr. Knoer was recruited to his position with the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Knoer was recently presented with the John W. Webb Lecture Award. Dr. Knoer presented his award lecture during the during the ASHP Conference for Pharmacy Leaders. The John W. Webb Lecture Award honors pharmacy practitioners or educators who stand apart from others because of their extraordinary dedication to fostering excellence in pharmacy management and leadership.
