Washington D.C. (September 13, 2021) – The Harris County Medical Society (HCMS) and the Houston Academy of Medicine (HAM) recently hired Sean Murphy, J.D. as their new Executive Vice President/Chief Executive Officer (EVP/CEO) effective September 15, 2021. Murphy’s professional experience covers 13 years in a variety of organizations including the health care field and national law firms.
Murphy joins HCMS from his most recent leadership role as the Executive Director, General Counsel and Registered Lobbyist for the Arizona Dental Association (AzDA). He received his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, with a Certificate in Health Law from Saint Louis University School of Law in 2008. He began his law career with Thompson Coburn LLP, a national law firm headquartered in St. Louis. He left the litigation world behind to become an in-house attorney for Association of Orthodontists (AAO)
While with AAO, Murphy received the statewide In-House Counsel Award for Heath Care from Missouri Lawyers Media and the Association Trends’ Leading Lobbyist Award.

It is the largest county medical society in the nation, representing more than 12,000 physicians and medical students. HCMS is affiliated with the Texas Medical Association (TMA), and its members comprise about 25% of TMA’s statewide membership.
