Washington D.C(June 25, 2021) – American String Teachers Association (ASTA) has hired Lynn Tuttle to fill the role as their new Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer. Tuttle has been a lifelong musician and has 26 years professional experience in the nonprofit sector.

Tuttle joins ASTA after working for six years at National Association for Music Education (NAfME) as the Director of Public Policy, Research & Professional Development. Hired initially into a newly created role as Senior Regulatory Policy Advisor in 2015, she was quickly promoted to Director of Content and Policy and subsequently, to last leadership role in 2018. She is also a founding member and past president of the State Education Agency Directors of Arts Education (SEADAE) and is the guest-editor for a special issue of Arts Education Policy Review focused on COVID-19 and K-12 arts education.

Tuttle has been a musician since first grade, when she began studying piano. She graduated from the Peabody Conservatory of Music in 1993 with her Bachelor’s degree in Music (Flute) Performance and that same year from Johns Hopkins University with her Bachelor’s degree in Humanistic Studies. She completed her Master’s degree in History from Johns Hopkins in 1995. From an early age, Tuttle was interested in marrying her love for music and music education with policy and advocacy work.
