Lewis Named New CSHA Executive Director

Entrepreneurial nonprofit leader brings extensive experience

WASHINGTON, DC (August 7, 2018) – After a national search led by its Board of Directors and Brian Lewisexecutive search firm, Sterling Martin Associates, the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association (CSHA) announces the appointment of Brian Lewis as the organization’s new executive director.

Lewis brings years of distinctive leadership experience in both nonprofit and for-profit organizations of various sizes, including several educational associations and consulting firms. Most recently, Lewis ran the consulting firm Associan, which was an avenue to provide entrepreneurial, strategic consultation to organizations in the areas of change management, collaborative leadership, governance, advocacy, communications and strategic branding. Prior to that, Lewis served as the chief executive officer of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).

Board President Beryl Fogel said, “I’m energized and enthusiastic about this exciting time for our association. We’re on the verge of a new era, one that will take us to the next level and beyond. I am incredibly excited to welcome Brian, the person who will lead CSHA into the future.”

“Having been the beneficiary of support from speech language pathologists in elementary school, I feel passionately about the dramatic impacts our members have on the lives of the people they serve,” said Lewis. “I have wonderfully positive memories about my experience and a story to tell about how it changed my life.”

An articulate and passionate communicator, Lewis is an inspiring keynote speaker with international experience. He has delivered keynote addresses across the United States and around the globe, including Doha, Dubai, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Mexico City and the Philippines.

After graduating from the University of California, Davis with a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Lewis earned a master’s degree in Communication Studies from California State University, Sacramento. He also holds the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from the American Society of Association Executives.

CSHA is a professional statewide association with over 3,000 members who are audiologists, speech-language pathologists, speech-language pathology assistants, students and affiliates in related fields. Audiologists specialize in preventing and assessing hearing and balance disorders, as well as providing audiologic treatment, including hearing aids. Speech-language pathologists identify, assess, and treat speech and language problems, including swallowing disorders, Speech-language pathology assistants work under the supervision of speech-language pathologists to help address speech-language challenges. www.csha.org
